This blog is about me and my music. My current focus is on learning piano using the Sudnow Method and guitar improvisation. I currently play guitar in a band that concentrates on playing the early rock and roll of the 50’s and 60’s. I also play guitar in a trio setting that focuses more on the jazzy side. Seemingly irrelevant posts on this blog reflect topics that are probably expressed in my music somewhere.

Added a B note cluster. Reading more from the Handbook. Need practice making fast changes to clusters.
I have been reading your blog for a while. I too aspire to play the piano. One way I learned to not only practice effectively but get those transitions in quicker is to practise with a metronome. Slow the metronome down to its lowest bpm and when you can perform the section you are practicing without mistakes a set number of times (for me it's five times) take the bpm up 5 to 10 beats per minute. Repeat this process until you can't go any faster without feeling rushed or flustered. The next day you don't have to start quite as slow as the day before but slow enough that at least you feel you get a bit of a warm up. Progess, believe it or not, happens a lot faster and for me at least, I feel like I've have some measure of success during my practicing.

Greetings Billy Shears,

I really do enjoy reading your blog.
Wish you lots of success,
